I’ve written before (ad nauseam, you are thinking, no doubt ) about how we wait for spring here in the northeast. So when, as we roll into in what should be the height of that extraordinary but fleeting season, the TV weatherman says: “Until further notice, the forecast is rain,” we know we are in big trouble. The early rhododendrons have come and gone with barely a mention due to inclement weather. Yesterday at work, I swept up pink crab apple petals customers tracked in on their wet feet, and realized that it’s been so cold and damp that I’d failed to take time to enjoy the blossoming trees lining the downtown street. Last night, at dusk, while on an errand with my daughter in weather reminiscent of March, I noticed dogwoods flowering between the rhythmic thump of the windshield wipers.
“I’m going out with my camera tomorrow to take pictures of the dogwoods before the rain ruins the display,” I said to my daughter.
“You mean you are just going to park in front of people’s houses with your camera,” my daughter asked. “Isn’t that kind of stalker-ish?”
“Yep.”
This last one is in the back of a house. And it's mine.

ReplyDeleteNice, they still look beautiful even after the rain. It looks like you do more weeding than I have ever done or at least a better job of picking things that choke the weeds out! Love the layers in that rockery too.
ReplyDeleteThe mist we get in the Northwest actually has caused many of the flowers here to rot right where they bloomed in a matter of days. It's sad. There are still huge puddles in my front yard that are normally there in December. But hey, we are almost to the average temperature we should be at in early April!

ReplyDeleteOh they're beautiful! I hate when the petals rain. It's windy and rainy here too. My Cilantro just keeps huddling to the earth. *sigh*. I hate the heat, but SOME warmth and sun would be a nice change!

ReplyDeleteSo pretty Liza. I also agree with the others that the view out of your back door is just lovely. I sighed a big sigh yesterday as I noticed that the petals on my neighbor's tulips had fallen to the ground below them from the rain and wind.
ReplyDeleteI said I wouldn't complain this Spring and Summer due to the hard winter here, but I have to grumble just a tiny bit about this weeks weather. OK. I'm done! ;~) Hope the sun comes out soon for all of us...

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I LOVE these photographs. They take me back to last month here in Virginia where we're now getting A LOT of rain. Everything's so green. There is some flooding, and some schools closed today. But it is SO beautiful. We've been staring at dry, dry, dry for the three years since we've been here. This makes me feel joyful.

Is dogwood what they call Cherry Blossom in Japan? Cause they look about the same to me.
