Picture instead of Words
I'm struggling with today's post and have been for more time than I have allotted to the task. For now, I need to move on. Options? Publish a poor piece or a shot of what came to life on our front porch this spring.
Well, this gives me an opportunity to comment on an old post. So there. You posted a bit of fiction a while back and I didn't comment. I can't remember why now. I think I might have been pressed for time. What I would have said is this... your writing is really good. You have a beautiful way with words. However, my advice about throwing any fictional work out into the universe: don't. Be very selective about who you allow to read your stuff. People can crush your muse without even knowing that they have done it. Unless you are really internally strong about the whole deal. It really is better to keep it to yourself and share it with a select few whose opinions you value and who you think can enhance your writing. I overshared on something that I was writing that really meant so much to me and my friends didn't say it was terrible. They just were like, "It's fine. It's okay. Whatever." Well, it was the first really good idea I'd had in FOREVER and I was over the moon about it. Needless to say, after that I was done. I put it away. Now, that I am actually fairly close to seeing this novel through, I know that I am going to pick that one up again because it was a good idea. I just went wrong in sharing it with too many people. My bad. So, I say this to you. You are a wonderful writer. Your snippet was intriguing. However, everything you write flows well. You are lyrical with words. So, trust your gut. You won't go wrong.
