Outside,
the air strums like a guitar,
rings like a bell.
The weight of a butterfly
starts a yellow-eyed
daisy bobbing—
a fat bee bounces off the screened back door.
Yesterday
I watched a tan rabbit
hop from the woods
to the bell-flower patch lining the garden.
He sat—
sniffing the air,
quivering,
before darting through
the yard to vanish
beyond the thickest hedges.

,,,sounds like a story book... soothing
I love the richness of detail of your poem...the bobbing daisy...love it!
Loved the poem. It brings to mind Susan Wittig Albert's Beatrix Potter series.
And a beautiful picture it was. I even almost loved the bee :)
yes, I'm there. But you knew I would be...
A couple of years ago, we had a shiny little fat black rabbit that roamed about our neighborhood for awhile and he brought me so much joy. I loved watching his antics and finding him in so many places.
I am actually allergic to rabbits so it was extra special to be able to interact with him in some way like this.
I didn't know you were a poet. You have a myriad of extraordinary talents, Liza.
I loved that poem. Springtime in the northeast (although I do realize it's June and you've had 90 degree temps up there.)
I miss rabbits. We don't have them down here, or any that I've seen in 4 years. Bunnies are so sweet.
Yes, it was a nice day!
Such lovely words ...
What a beautiful day you painted!
