It is What it is

It is 9:00.  I have 45 minutes before I need to conduct a quick errand,  then point the car north for the six mile ride to work.  I tossed in bed early this morning, desperate for a blog post topic.  Instead of ideas though, the water-torture drip of the gutter, draining from our 3:00 a.m. thunderstorm wormed its way in. Plunk, pelt, plunk, pelt.   If only words would land in such a steady rhythm.

Sometimes, I when sit down, stuck, forcing myself to type, unexpected thoughts begin to drizzle, trickling at first, like the tiny brook flowing through our gutter, then flooding like a storm surge.  Today, it is just this, a paragraph squeezed out like the last of the toothpaste, hardly enough to cover the brush.

This is my little contribution to Alex Cavanaugh's monthly Insecure Writers's blogfest.   Click here to read more.

It's hard when the words won't come.

But see? Words did come and you described beautifully a moment when you felt uninspired. And thus, were inspired.

Okay, well if that was the last squeezings onto your toothbrush, it's mighty potent stuff! Short and potent! :)

Better than I, who just doesn't write when the words don't come. Thus, I am not a 'real' writer and may never be...
You accomplished more by giving it a shot than many of us do when we feel fine about whatever drivel we may come up with!

I'm with Bridget! But yeah, I get the Blog Topic Blahs from time to time. Not much cure, as far as I can see, 'cept waiting until tomorrow. :D

Hope you have a great day!

Perhaps, as you say, but OH what a flavor. More is not always better, and this description of the drizzle was beautifully laid out.

Short and yet, full of symbolism!

You may think you had nothing to say, but you said it extremely well!

let's not forget how long Seinfeld ran - a show based on nothing! Thanks for this moment...

You did it! Feel success! You squeezed out those words like toothpaste in a beautiful metaphor of writing and life. We all have days when each word feels like a drip when we really want a flood.

You do what you can do even when it isn't there and you can look back and say that you did do what you tried to do without the fail. Great post! ;)

Oh Liz...I know exactly what you mean. But I know this too will pass. And the words will flow.

A little bit of toothpaste goes a long ways. Before you know it a tiny paragraph becomes a chapter, and the a book. Brush on...or stroke on...wait that didn't sound right. Just keep on writing. :)

Sometimes the words drip, then fizzle out. But you came up with two tight and vivid paragraphs. Like brush strokes that often turn out to be our best writing; often bordering on poetry, which these paragraphs do.

All you can do when you're stuck is simply write about not being able to write and you did a fantastic job.
