Red Barn Motif

There is a scenic vista everyone takes pictures of in our town--and when I say everyone, I mean, I googled it and found multiple reproductions of it, even one offered on one of those mass market art websites.  But when my favorite local photographer captured it on an autumn day, I realized however “mainstream” or reproduced the view may have become, its beauty is authentic.

Unlike the dories or the catboat this isn’t a photo I’ve struggled to take.  The view has been there, unwrapped like an opened present the hundreds of times I’ve crossed the bridge in front of it over the years. There are some things though, that never fail to reach our vulnerable places, scenes that make us stop and swallow the view like morsels of aching wonder.

Lately, I’ve lost the rhythm in my days.  My back hurts sitting at the computer, which I’ve blamed on lack of exercise, but since I spend two hours a day trying to write, before I sit for five hours in front of a computer at work, this creates a challenge.  To try to loosen things up, both physically and mentally, I decided to try to get back to the routine of early morning walks this week.  Now, my back still hurts and I’m even more behind in my writing.

But I got these.

Hope your weekend is filled with reflective images!

It looks more like a mill than a barn. It's a beautiful sight. Something about a red barn alone on a vista holds the eye. Hope your back is better.

'Morsels of aching wonder'.... now that is a jewel of a phrase. Gorgeous photos. May your rhythm fall into place and your back let go of pain.

Lovely!

Take a break every hour - or right now maybe every 30 minutes. Doesn't need to be long. Stand up, walk around your desk, room, whatever. Move every muscle you can move, even the ones in your face. It helps.

Happy Weekend :)

That is lovely! I like how the side of the barn is lit. You know what that makes me want to do! :)

That is a gorgeous image. I wonder if you could do little yoga moves at your desk. It might make your back feel a lot better.

Each beautiful view is full of so many stories.Summer love. Playing children. Even crime and murder.

After all of that, it's pleasantly relaxing.

Oh you must take frequent breaks from your sitting down in front of a pc! Seriously!! Stretch, walk up and down your staircase - even if it's just for 5 minutes! :-)

And when you have gorgeous views like these - then a walk outside is even better! Take care

it is hard to imagine such a place...didn't you make photo note cards for sale at one time (boats and scenes)?

Your words "I've lost the rhythm of my days" really resonated with me. I'm trying several ways to get that back.

Oh this is a lovely post and a wonderful photo - thank you - I have to get up more with my back and yet...
I wanted to stop by all my fave places and tell you that I’m sorry I haven’t been by much (or commenting). I’ve been on a tremendous writing jag – the likes of that I haven’t experienced since the year I left university (sixteen years ago – I was a late scholar). I have written 65 thousand so far since the beginning of June on a new book and fifty new poems (facebook every day with a photo). It is all great fun but it eats up all my time as I’m also working and trying to sell our house. I thought I’d take some time today and just tell you that I totally appreciate both your blog and your comments on mine and I will be back in full force soon! I have a mystery to revise and one to finish but I think I just revised too long and now I’m writing freeeeeee
