April Fools Us

If you lived in New England 15 years ago, the phrase “April Fools Blizzard” likely conjures up some challenging memories. Overnight from March 31 to April 1, 1996, an intense storm clobbered us with wet, damaging snow.  Major highways were closed resulting in thousands of stranded travelers. The weight and volume of precipitation downed power lines and decapitated trees. In our case, it took an entire day to shovel the almost three feet of slop.

So this  year's little dollop which came overnight and is now falling off limbs in massive blobs, splotching the road underneath, is nothing more than a faint echo. It’s an ugly day here. But all across the Eastern Seaboard, I’m guessing folks are sighing in relief.

For those who are still waiting, like me, here's wishing you warm spring days ahead.  Happy Friday.

We got cheated on our winter again this year. It happens almost every year. So come on down here and enjoy some warm weather and sunshine. We'll even go over to the beach! I'm glad y'all didn't get another blizzard!

I remember that storm. I was snowed in for a week.

I left work today in a blizzard! If it happens just after St. Patrick's Day, Newfoundlers call it 'Sheila's Brush' - Paddy's wife cleaning up the last of the snow with her broom, I think. This is a simple n'or'easter, eh girl? and we maritimers know it to be OK. I'm safe home and playing on the computer so yay!

We were soooo lucky not to get dumped on this time here in New York.

Okay, that really stinks! We still have snow on the ground here...chance of snow through into next week...ugh...I feel your pain!

I know you'll want to throw a snowball at me, but snow sounds nice to me after yesterday. It hit 97 degrees and I was melting. Way too early for that.

Oh, I remember those New England blizzards. I remember the snowstorm of 1968 when I went to Connecticut for my first husband to go to graduate school. Snowbound for a week with three little girls. I remember well!

So, a "smaller" storm wouldn't be so upsetting.
