A Dose of Inspiration

Once in a while you do something for the fun of it, and the rewards are greater than expected.  The gentlemen referenced below attend the Monday breakfast for seniors at which I volunteer. Each of these men are engaged and eager and live lives replete with laughter. The three youngest asked me to write the story in honor of the their 96-year-old golfing buddy. The story received good placement in the "Citizen's News" in our local newspaper which catapulted the four subjects "over the moon."  As for me, well, this was one of the most enjoyable and inspiring pieces I've had the fortune to write over the past two years.

If I every feel tired, or heaven forbid, too old, I'm going to remember the fun I had interviewing these men and writing their story.  Then I'm going to go out and do something I love.

That's a wonderful story and so glad you got to write it! We're never too old for anything or past the age of productivity and living life to the fullest.

How cool is all that! Golf is one of those activities that can be enjoyed far into the senior years. Theirs is quite a story. So nice you can do this....writing for a living. I'm jealous as I have to think about getting ready for the yucky job.

What a wonderful story, Liza. It got me a bit choked up, really. My dad was an avid golfer and so is my hubby. They had a very special bond. I've always felt blessed that they had the chance to play together for many years before dad passed.

Thanks for the beautifully written reminder of the two most important men in my life...

Loved this story and the article was an inspiration for me. I keep thinking I might be a senior until I read about people my mom's age still out there grabbing on to life1

Oh that was great! Age is just a number I refuse to be bound to. I wish I didn't know my age. What freedom in that! I will live as if I didn't.

A beautiful story beautifully written, Liza. The four gentlemen are smiling, in terrific shape, and are enjoying life - I mean, it doesn't get any more inspiring than that! Thanks for sharing!

And, I've got to add that YOU are inspiring - your position was eliminated after 23 years but you've bounced back. You rock!

Great article! Yes - a good place to get inspiration. When I'd been without a partner for almost ten years and feeling low about it - my dad married his second wife (my mum had died ten years back). They were so happy in their second marriage and I took great inspiration from that. And I was right too as I found my sweet patootie shortly after. I have a pal who is 91 - he sold 3 thousand of his self-published books this year - one at a time down at the waterfront. Now that is something! I love older folks - so much to share.
