Stephanie Thornton over at Hatshepsut, the Writing of a Novel is sponsoring a haiku blogfest this weekend. Since these 5-7-5 verses are usually nature related, it seemed timely to participate. Herewith please find my entry:
Trees sway, bend and crack
Shattered by hurricane winds
Dawn delivers calm
Head on over to Stephanie's blog to find links for more.
6:40 a.m. update. I wrote that haiku last night in anticipation. Dawn has indeed deposited calm. As for Earl, well, he delivered a great big nothing—all hype and no substance, that guy. It rained overnight and perhaps one gust of wind blew. Period. Earl's impact on us didn't even merit "wimp" status. I'd go for "blip."
Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers. They worked! Here's wishing you all a wonderful long-weekend. Enjoy your last blast of summer.
We are off to drag the tomato plants out of the garage.
Oh man, and I guess I have fake hurricane on the brain, because I forgot to mention KarenG's BBQ blogfest, which is being held over the Labor Day weekend. Click on the link: Coming Down the Mountain... to find those in attendance. I've had some fun reading so far!

Liza, awesome. I can see the trees falling. I was born and raised in South Florida. The Keys, so I know hurricanes. This reminded me of their awesome power. Glad you were able to say,"Bye bye Earl. :)
Pat over at Talespinning does excellent haiku. She has convinced me to do some, too. Happy weekend, pal. :)
Glad nothing happened from Earl. He was a false alarm for a lot of people, which is a good thing.
I'm so glad Earl peetered out. I love your haiku- I like your use of sound to make the verse pop.
Hi Liza,
Blog BBQ hopper here from the UK. So glad to hear Earl posed no problem, shall look forward to following your blog.

ps word verification: novel - most appropriate!
Love the use of auditory sense in that haiku, and I'm so glad you got calm, not fury. Bye to the Blip and happy weekend.
So glad the hurricane missed you!
That is a perfect haiku. I love the form and have written some good ones, I think. Maybe I'll post them.
You commented on my last post that you remember the community playhouse and the green curtains, and paid 50 cents. When I first started going to the movies at the Villa Theatre in Salt Lake I paid 25 cents! Ah, those were the days...
Hope you're having a great weekend.

This reminds me of a quote from Joan of Arcadia (the TV Show). If you've been watching my footage on Thursdays that weren't directed to you, you will know that Joan had lots of conversations with God. She was a teenager and God took many forms. He gave her lots of tasks or homeworks assignments. By and large, she wasn't too thrilled about it...lol. It's funny how we all wish we had a direct pipeline, but I don't think we'd be all that happy if we actually got one. I think God would be just as "unhelpful" to us as he was to Joan. In other words, not so big on answering questions and really more about handing out tasks.
Anywhooozle... she says to God, "That was anti-climatic." She meant anti-climactic." God corrects her, "You mean anti-climactic. Being anti-climatic is being against the weather." Being a teenager, she just gives him that teenage glacial stare and stalks off. (If I remember right.)
In your case, this was actually anti-climactic and anti-climatic. I could have just said that, but without the context, it wouldn't have made any sense. What I really should have done is just saved the whole darn thing until Thursday and let you see it for yourself. Is it cheating if I still do that? Because, really, they do the back and forth so much better than I.
Oh... and I am glad you are all fit and fine!
I love this haiku! I may be obsessed right now. Oh Liza, we've been haiku-ing, barbecuing and Earl entertaining. I feel like I spent the whole weekend with you - and it's been a blast...

I've read several wonderful haikus as I've been blog hopping. So fun! I don't write them but like to read them. Thanks for participating in the BBQ :) I'm already a follower but hadn't been here for awhile. Nice to be back! Next time I won't be such a stranger.
I loved your haiku!
This is gorgeous, Liza. I loved the violence of the first two lines juxtaposed with the tranquility in the third. Thank goodness Earl didn't live up to his hype.
