I’m at a funny place right now. I’ve begun querying and recognize it’s time to get busy on another project. Dutifully, I started working on something
new, only to get stuck about three thousand words into it. I know the
bare-bones of the story, but none of the tissue and sinew, and that’s ground me
to a halt. In the words of author Lynne Griffin, “Thinking is writing, too.” It’s time to let things percolate a bit.
Thankfully, Santa brought me a new camera for Christmas. I confess.
Ever since we started using digital cameras, I've barely paid
attention to apertures and shutters speed, and instead have relied on automatic
settings. That, and my environment. In truth, I can't go wrong with that. But still, in my mind, I'm kind of a phony as a photographer, and I've decided to see if I can change that. So, instead of pacing the floors when words are a struggle, I’ve been out watching the sun rising...and setting.
Words are awesome, but pictures can be kind of cool, too. I just have to wake up in time.

Hey Liza! I love that you're using your percolating time to capture the sunrise--I wish I could motivate myself to rise at that hour.
All three shots are lovely, but you knew I'd especially like the one with the lobster boat. I haven been painting a little--a commissioned portrait. I'm not sure if I'm ready to tackle a waterscape (is that a real word?)
I'm pretty much where you're at as far as writing goes--I have a skeletal outline for a third in my "Portrait" series, but can't seem to get beyond the first paragraph. Not good--just means I'm not ready yet.

Liza, My husband asked for these books on digital photography for his birthday last year. He loves them. They are very simple -- usually 2 pages maximum for any one concept, with lots of pictures and examples.

Take my breath away! I have an aged point and shoot Canon digital with which I have taken some truly amazing pictures. I don't know a thing about apertures and such, but I do know about framing. There's also something to being in the right spot at the right time. :)
wow. I picture is worth a thousand words. Excellent. But a picture can also be a prompt, so I bet some words are churning. It will all come together

Sunrise, sunset--I feel like it's Fiddler on the Roof. How come my pictures never look this good. Of course the industrial park visible from my back yard isn't the best setting for sunset photos. Yours are beautiful.

Your photos are beautiful! I cannot take a good shot no matter what camera I use. It is an art requiring creativity, and you have it.
Sunrises are the best, especially over water. Photography and writing go hand and hand as does walking and doing and seeing. Good luck with the new ms. and those queries!
I love the colors of sunrise. Maybe because it feels promising or hopeful??? I don't know. It seems like it's foreshadowing a beautiful day (and sometimes does).
Unclear: was your new camera the old-style kind or the digital kind? I suppose it doesn't matter. Your pics are gorgeous (like always!).

Like everyone else, I think your photos are gorgeous! You've already put your new camera to great use which proves there is nothing "phony" about your photographs. Three thousand words is still a good start. I'm sure the rest will come soon.
