Hummingbird Healing

After spending the morning gardening, I sat on the back step by the hummingbird feeder reading last weekend. One persistent little guy kept returning to drink and each time he did, he cast a shadow on my book.  So, I grabbed the camera, focused, and held the position until he arrived again.

So, my dears. I’ve had a loss in my life.  My oldest sister succumbed to cancer on Friday, May 29.  It was long and painful and her death was one of those things people call a blessing.  It just doesn’t feel that way to me right now. I’m not sure when I’ll have the heart to write a real blog post again, but if you don’t see me here for a while, know that somewhere I’m writing, because that’s how I heal.

Blessings to all.  And if life gets challenging for you, remember to look for the hummingbirds.

Oh Liza, I'm so sorry. I know, in time, you will be able to remember her with smiles and laughter. For now, do whatever you have to reach that place in your heart. I am sending you warm hugs.

If you'll remember, I wrote about my father constantly on my blog after he passed from cancer. It was all in my head and I didn't want to write about anything else. All of you were kind enough to listen. If you find that your writing clogs because the only thing you want to write about is your sister. Do it. You can share it here or not. If you do, we'll embrace you with open arms.

What I tell myself is that my father didn't die. He just changed his geography. I can't see his current real estate, but it's still there. One day, I'll buy into the same retirement plan and we'll be together again. That helps me. Maybe it will give you some solace.

((hugs))

On another note, I've always wanted a hummingbird feeder.

I am so very sorry, Lisa. It doesn't seem to me like there is any "blessing" at all in a situation like that, except that maybe in small moments you can feel uplifted by the sight of a beautiful hummingbird.

Words are tough in a time like this. Sorry for your loss. Do take time to sit and watch the hummingbirds, reflect on life, and do celebrate your sister's life. You do know the blog world is here for you for support. Take care

My heart goes out to you, Lisa. I lost my mother to cancer when I was just 23. It took me 40 years to write about it. Be patient and kind to yourself right now. The healing will take as long as it takes. I find hummingbirds to be very spiritual. At times like this we need moments of joy wherever we can find them. My condolences.

SO sorry for your loss, Liza.... Sending lots of cyber hugs your way...

Cancer is horrible. I have lost so many family members and friends to this dreaded disease. At least she is no long suffering and is in a place that is pain free where her spirit can surely be happy.... She'll be with you always within your heart. And every time you see a hummingbird, think of her and her soaring and happy spirit.

I'm so sorry. I have four sisters and haven't lost one yet, but I know that day is coming as we are getting older.
Remember the good times.

Liz, I'm so sorry for your loss. My dad passed a year ago in April. I miss him terribly, but I feel his presence often. I find your post really relatable because it often seems that birds are somehow connected to remembering him. Another friend said the same thing about her mother--she would be thinking of her and missing her terrible and a hummingbird would zoom into her line of vision at that moment. We were discussing this over cupcakes I'd brought and as she told me this I realized the cupcakes I'd chosen were, in fact, called hummingbird cupcakes. Keep an open. I believe your sister will also find ways of letting you know she feels your love. Best, Martha
